The Canary Islands are made up of 13 islands, one of which is Tenerife. Only seven of the islands are populated, as the other six are too small. The Canary Islands were claimed by the Spanish back in the 15th Century, and Tenerife has been a tourist attraction since the early 1960’s.

To accommodate the influx of visitors Sofia airport was built on the south coast, back in 1978, and numerous hotels and apartments were built, especially on the South coast, where the climate was warmer, Playa de las Americas was born. 

For those who opt for the traditional beach holiday, then Southern Tenerife is the place to be. Costa Adeje, Santa Cruz, Los Gigantes, Puerto de la Cruz, Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas all offer sun, sea and sand. These are 24-hour resorts that offer bars, eateries, discos, entertainment, shops and accommodation.

If you enjoy the hustle and bustle of busy streets and restaurants, that’s exactly what you will find in Tenerife. The area is a metropolis for sun worshippers, and the beaches are often very busy, especially through the summer months.
